all the things

For like three days I “restarted” the comics blog I created last year—wrote a couple posts, spent some time prettying it up, had grand plans to rule the world. The usual. But I realized I just don’t have time. Like, seriously, I work 9-5 and I’m trying to write a novel or ten; I barely have time for sleeping, let alone for this blog, let alone for another blog.

Grace. Relax. Nobody cares what you think about Wonder Woman.

Please Note

If you comment on a post and you leave a comment that is really quite articulate but is on an entirely unrelated subject from the post, I am going to assume that you are a new breed of highly articulate spambot and delete. If you are in fact simply a very confused human, please accept my apologies.

Happy Birthday Gracetopia!

Well, happy birthday gracetopia version 2.0, at least. But anyway, you’re two years old, baby! How does that feel??

On October 14, 2008, I started Gracetopia 2.0 with this post. A stunner, let me tell you. At least it was only uphill from there. (OK, the following post was about Paris Hilton. There were growing pains.)

So I thought it’d be fun to go through some 2-year anniversary stats. First, here are the top 5 most popular posts I’ve ever done here at Gracetopia:

5. Book Review: The Mysterious Benedict Society. This is the first book review I ever did here and it remains my favorite because I feel like I actually thought critically about the book and said something *gasp* interesting.

4. Stargirl Update. Remember her? The girl who had 56 stars tattooed on her face? This is Part II of my Stargirl series, and since Part I is up at #2, I think we can safely say that Stargirl has done more for my blog than anyone else.

3. Gay Smackdown. Oh, if only this had happened. Neil Patrick Harris and John Barrowman were duking it out for “Gay Man of the Decade” and I had an original and profitable idea for making the decision. If only someone had listened.

2. Stargirl. The original Stargirl post. I’m pretty snarky in this one. (As opposed to all the rest of the time, when I’m not snarky at all…)

1. Tracy Chapman. This one surprises me, especially because not only am I horrible at music reviews, I spent most of this review bitching about my fellow concert-goers. Hmmm.

The top 5 search terms that have brought people to Gracetopia:

5. “I sell the dead

4. “shane macgowan” (yesssss)

3. “jack harkness”

2. “the red queen”

1. “tracy chapman” (again on top! I feel like I should improve my tracy chapman-related news)

I am pleased with all of those.

Aaaaand of course some of the more entertaining search terms that have brought people to Gracetopia. I feel like my stat counter has lost some, I swear I remember seeing something about caterpillars once. Anyway:

“gay men without clothes”

“big blue penis movie movie” (yep, movie movie)

“blue glowing shocks”

“sideways nose”

“venn diagram shoe color”

“why is there a penis in the movie”

…always a good question, my friend.

So there are some birthday stats brought to you by the friendly elves at Gracetopia. Thanks for hanging out with me these past two years! I really appreciate it and I love each and everyone of you. Except for that one guy.

I lack focus

So I have decided that this blog needs a focus. Like, sure, lalalala aspiring authoress nerd is good and all, but it’s not really niche, you know. There are lots of us (authoresses, nerds, and combo packs) out here in the interwebs. I need something more concrete.

Aside: how do you pronounce “niche?” I’ve always said NEESH, but I’ve noticed, out here in the big world, that like 99% of people pronounce it NISH. Which I always thought was wrong. And whenever, once in a blue moon, someone says NEESH I say to myself, “hehehe there’s an educated person.” But maybe I am wrong? (rare.) So I’m doing a poll.

If you have any further thoughts on the subject, please comment.

I’ve forgotten what I was talking about.

EDIT: Okay, I obviously wasn’t clear. I am not actually trying to figure out what people should say, so don’t look it up or whatnot. Just tell me what you do say. :)

Thanks everyone who’s answered so far!

blog update stuffs

So, this is not my first blog. I’m sure everyone who has stuck with me as I’ve skipped around the blogosphere hopes it is my last so they don’t have to bookmark something else. I think it will be the last. I like things to be shiny and new, but I’m getting around that by just changing the theme and rearranging the widgets every couple of months. It’s almost like having a new blog.

I’m getting really good at tricking myself into things.

Anyway so now I’m going through my life cleaning up a bit, and that’s going to include deleting a lot of old stuff from the interwebs. But there are things I’ve posted at these now-defunct blogs that I kinda like, think are kinda clever, or just want to have around for some reason. So I’m going to repost some of these, maybe rewrite them to reflect my current thinking. I’ll tag them with something clever. Probably most of you wouldn’t notice, but I just thought I’d let y’all know what I’m doing in case a) you happen to be one of my most loyal readers and get a weird sense of déjà vu or b) you wonder why I am suddenly posting like 5 things/day. I suppose the sensible thing would be to save them for times when I’m not feeling prolific. Sensible? Who’s that?

Anyway.

Also, if it’s not obvious already I’m spending the majority of my weekend lolling around and playing on the internets. 4th post of the day woo! Wow yeah I’m lame.

facelift

Somewhat updated look. I decided we needed a little color in the neighborhood. Thoughts? Yea, nay, don’t care? This is basically my favorite color so really nothing you say will be able to sway me.

Also, almost 600 people have read (or at least clicked on) my review of The Mysterious Benedict Society. Wow.

lazy day of summer

Wow it’s hot.

I have accomplished approximately nothing this weekend. I’m currently in Providence, RI, lazing on my friend’s deck in this 87-degree weather. Trying to balance the beer intake with the water intake and stay under the umbrella’s shade. Had some thoughts of writing, but the sun broiled my brain to mush.

So I’m going to tidy up some things around Gracetopia (going to update the Rogues’ Gallery, for one) and go back to doing nothing on the internet.

More updates as events warrant.

weekend accomplishments: zero

uggghhh I’m such a bad person. I totally bailed on Habitat for Humanity yesterday. I could feel myself getting sick on Friday, and then I woke up on Saturday and I was like, oh god exhaustion and I can tell I’m about to be really ill. So I stayed home and slept. And now I feel like the scum of the earth.

But I am feeling slightly better? So that’s good. I’m still like ridiculously tired, but better.

Except–

So far this weekend I have watched The Last King of Scotland, La Haine (still one of my favorite movies of all time), Law and Order: SVU, The Avengers, and Paris Hilton’s New BFF.*

And eaten a pint of sorbet.

So basically, this weekend was a total loss. Ughhh.

I did write like 200 words in my WIP, but I don’t like them very much.

.

*Contrary to how it may be appearing, I often do other things besides watch television. Really. I swear.
